I Finally Got Behind A Pottery Wheel

I have a new obsession, it's all about a pottery wheel...

Every home needs ceramic vases, jugs, vessels for salt and paper, sugar bowls and about a million more things that if I had five minutes more I would list! We need them for flowers, to put our collection of spoons in, for storing herbs, for decorating bathrooms and mantles and bookshelves. I am a big fan! I have a collection that I change in and out depending on the season and you know that I am always on the lookout for more! Ceramic plates are my number one obsession but a close second is pretty much anything exotic and ceramic. I am a sucker for a beautiful platter, an intricately painted plate and a gorgeous trinket bowl from far away lands.

Pottery is such a fun collectable, and I am so sure everyone has at least one piece in their home that is special to them. Maybe it was handed down, perhaps you carried it in your luggage for months, maybe you got it as a gift. Whatever it is and wherever it is from, a handmade vessel certainly holds a special place in my heart.

I have tried my hand at pottery, and I loved it! A good friend of mine runs a gorgeous studio called Studio Artemis, and I had the pleasure of spending an afternoon there. It was so relaxing to create what I thought was a 'masterpiece,' to sit at the wheel and pretend I was a skilled potter or maybe a character from 'Ghost' I had such a great time. It also gave me a better understanding of the skill required to make the simplest of pieces.

The lovely Kristin from Studio Artemis teaches adult workshops and also has a holiday program for kids. Perfect if you are looking for a new creative hobby. I love it so much that this is my new activity to do with a group of girlfriends every week. I love how in the moment you have to be to create; you are never sure where your pot will go, and it is just so much fun.

To me, it has reinforced the fact you are never too old to learn a new trick! It really is fun to put yourself out there and try something new. Hopefully, I can share some of my pieces with you very soon.

If you haven't already, why don't you give pottery a go!?
