A Glorious Spring Table Setting

Tulip Table 024 copy.jpg

Spring has sprung, and it is time to get amongst it!

There is nothing I love more than a lovely bunch of fresh tulips to set the scene for a perfectly sweet, florally table setting. Tulips are looking their best at this time of year, so it makes absolute sense to use them as a centrepiece for this otherwise quite simple, outdoor table setting.

Now when I say 'quite simple’ I am referring to the amount of effort I put in to making this table come together, which was - not a lot! When you have a table cloth as magnificent as this and flowers as divine - you don’t have to do too much at all. As soon as I spotted this Indian printed table cloth at Canvas + Sasson, I knew exactly what I would do with it. Don’t be scared of using print and colour. You don’t always have to stick with safe, go crazy and mix it up when the occasion calls for it. I found fantastic plates from Pottery Barn and green glasses from Country Road that match in perfectly. Using bright coral plates like these on white table cloth would be too jarring for my taste, but having them on the print works so well. I love a little bright on bright!

When creating a table with so much pattern and colour, it is all about symmetry and simplicity of shape. Keep your glassware simple, don’t overdo it with bright vases, let the flowers sing in basic jars. Don’t overcrowd the table with clutter, let the patterns do all the work. I just couldn’t get enough of the print so I have gone against my norm of using a clashing napkin and gone with the matching set, this works well in bringing down the brightness of the plates. When deciding on what kind of glassware to use, I picked out one colour from the cloth and matched the glasses back to add a little more depth of colour to the table.
