Take a look inside your linen closet, are you in need of an update?

We all need a good collection of quality linen in our linen closet, one that softens after each wash, making it more luxurious and comfortable every time you sleep on it. We also need some patterns to add a little interest, and now is the time to reimagine your bedroom, style up something new and exciting, something in Cotton. So it is perfect timing that my new Chyka Home for Harris Scarfe bedlinen collections have launched, and I could not be more excited to share it with you all.

I love to mix and match my plain, block-coloured sheets with printed sheets and quilts. Not only does this bring in more colour to your bed, but it also adds depth and layering to your styling and changes the ‘feel of the room. This collection can easily be mixed and matched. Delicate prints fit back perfectly with soft linens to create a cosy and inviting look. Simple block colours can be brought to life with cushions, pillows and throws - the styling options are endless.

how to care for linen

  • Always wash your linen bedding on your machine's gentle cycle to help protect its natural fibre. If it's possible to select the water level in your washing machine, always use the maximum offered. Your bedding should be able to move around freely in the machine.

  • Linen bedding should only be washed in cold water on a gentle cycle. As a natural fabric, linen has a tendency to shrink (like cotton) and break down in hot water.

  • Linen should never be tumble dried on high heat, which not only can cause the fibres to shrink, but break altogether. Instead, if linen is pre-washed, place linens in a dryer on low heat. Following the tag can help reduce the likelihood that the linen fabric will shrink.

  • It's generally recommended to wash bed linens every one to two weeks to keep this build-up at bay, but the exact frequency depends on the type of fabric, the type of bed linen, and whether or not you have pets or unique health conditions.

  • The fastest way to soften linen sheets is to mix ½ cup of baking soda with your washing powder and drop everything in the washing machine as usual. For handwashing linen items, fill one full bucket of warm or cold water, and pour the whole cup of baking soda in it. After that, simply soak the linen sheets in this solution overnight.

  • Linen is an excellent choice for luxury bedding items such as sheets, quilt covers, pillows, and more. In fact, it is a top choice of many hotels and vacation rental homes due to its durability and hypoallergenic qualities.
