Dessert Dumplings

I thought it was high time for a golden syrup dish. 

These golden syrup dumplings are one of my favourite comfort food desserts. So simple to make and just perfect with vanilla ice cream.


  • 1 cup plain flour
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1-2 tablespoons milk

For the Sauce

  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 2 tablespoons golden syrup


  1. In a medium sized bowl add the flour, baking powder, salt and butter.
  2. Using your fingertips rub the butter into the flour until it resembles breadcrumbs.
  3. Add the egg and one tablespoon of milk and mix until a dough forms. The dough should be moist but not sticky. If it is too dry add a small amount of milk. or if it's too sticky add a little flour.
  4. Divide the dough into eight small balls and set aside.
  5. Make the sauce by putting the water, sugar, butter and golden syrup into a large casserole dish. Cook on high for 5mins, stirring once and making sure that the butter is completely melted.
  6. Add the dumplings to the sauce and on a medium heat, covered, for 4mins.
  7. Turn the dumplings over and allow to stand, covered, for 5mins.
  8. Serve with vanilla ice cream.
