The Versatility Of Melamine

I know this doesn’t sound very ‘Chyka’ of me….

But I can explain! Having a basic table setting for outdoor events serves several practical and aesthetic purposes. When I first started creating my Chyka Home range for Harris Scarfe, I wanted to offer versatile, everyday-use items that could be elevated if necessary. Pieces that were classic and simple, pieces that would match back with your existing collections or blend in with your basics. And this outdoor melamine set from my Basics collection is just that - ready to elevate or use at the beach when the seasons change.

How well do you know Melamine?

Melamine is a plastic material commonly used in dinnerware, kitchen utensils, and even specific furniture. It's known for its durability, lightweight nature, and resistance to breakage, making it a popular choice for indoor and outdoor use. Melamine is highly resistant to impact and less likely to break or shatter than traditional ceramic or glass dinnerware; this durability makes it a preferred choice for outdoor gatherings, picnics, and events. Melamine products are lightweight, which makes them easy to handle and transport; they can also withstand high temperatures, making them suitable for serving hot foods. However, it's important to note that while melamine is heat-resistant, it is not microwave-safe or oven-safe unless explicitly indicated by the manufacturer. Melamine is generally dishwasher-safe, making cleanup easy. However, avoiding abrasive cleaners or scrubbers is recommended, which can scratch the surface and affect the finish.
