What flower lets you know Spring has sprung?

Hydrangeas, of course! The beauty of hydrangea flowers lies in their dazzling colours, abundant blooms, unique petal structure, lush foliage, long-lasting appeal, and graceful aging process. Should I go on? Whether you encounter them in a garden or as part of a floral arrangement, hydrangea flowers never fail to captivate with their timeless charm, so it makes perfect sense to me to create a dinner set to celebrate this beauty for my Chyka Home Range by Harris Scarfe. These popular ornamental plants are cherished for their large, showy blooms and lush green foliage, yet they are dainty and romantic. With the help of my bamboo cutlery, the blues and greens bring the garden to your table, and when paired with the matching white dinner set in the same shapes, you have a table that is bound to impress!

Beyond their physical beauty, hydrangea flowers also hold symbolic meaning. They are often associated with gratitude, heartfelt emotions, and understanding, so planning a relaxing lunch with friends is even more special when using this collection. Starting with a simple green linen tablecloth, three clustered bunches of Hydrangeas and Lily of the Valley, I have used a combination of both dinner sets. Layering the print on the plain with a matching white linen napkin makes for a striking table. Ending the lunch with a bespoke Hydrangea Cake by Wildflour Bakery, what more could you ask for?

What’s not to love about Hydrangeas?

One of the most striking aspects of hydrangea flowers is their wide range of colours. They can be found in shades of pink, blue, purple, lavender, white, and even green. The colour of the flowers can often change based on the pH level of the soil, adding an element of intrigue to their beauty. The simplicity of bouquets in white or cream en masse always takes my breath away; their unique petals are made up of smaller, star-shaped flowers clustered together, creating a beautifully textured appearance. The petals are often slightly ruffled, adding a touch of delicacy to the overall look. With a relatively long blooming season, often starting in late spring or early summer and lasting well into Autumn. This extended display means they often undergo subtle changes in colour and texture. The initial vibrancy of the blooms gradually softens and takes on a vintage, antique-like quality, a look I absolutely love!
