A cake stand doesn’t always need to hold a cake!

It can be the star of the day and show off so many fabulous items under its glass dome, the possibilities really are endless. I am all about making sure one purchase can be used for multiple occasions and a cake stand is no different. Sure, it is the perfect way to display a beautifully iced, delicious cake but come the festive season it can be used for so much more. Here are three of my favourite ways to style the humble cake stand…

A cake stand is a perfect base to set up a little Christmas vignette in your home. I love the combination of the glittering rose gold reindeers and the green leaves of the gardenias and fir, and by sitting this gorgeous decoration on a stand full of sugar I have created the effect of snow! How fun is that? This simple trick that elevates your festive decor is so easy to achieve. Love this look? Recreate it with reindeer decorations, glitter baubles and of course, the 2pce glass cake stand all from Harris Scarfe.

Carry your Christmas decor through the house by filling a cake stand with excess baubles. This glittery collection, perfectly encased in glass, works well as a table centrepiece, a coffee table decoration or anywhere in the home lacking a little festive cheer! I love how these baubles reflect the light, just so pretty! Love this look? Recreate it with this collection of glitter baubles from Harris Scarfe.

OK, OK, I’ll keep a little tradition going by placing a delicious Christmas cake and assortment of mince pies in my cake stand that greets my Christmas guests on arrival. Sitting proudly next to my Limoncello Spritz cocktails, I have placed a smaller stand atop the original to give it a little more height - you know I love to layer, especially cut glass and crystal this festive season. Placed next to a collection of edible goodies, this stand absolutely shines and sets the theme for my Christmas Day.

5 Creative Ways to style a cake stand

  1. Add some small potted succulents in varying heights, encasing the greenery like a terrarium. Make sure you spray them frequently and keep them out of the sun - I love this look as a centrepiece for an outdoor table. Super cute!

  2. Remove the cake lid and replace it with a large glass cloche. Cloches are one of my favourite decorative tools to use, so versatile and so many ways to fill them to enhance your decor. By adding a cake base - your stand just a little higher!

  3. Fill your stand base with an assortment of candles. Placing this stand in corners of the room, in your fireplace or even as a table centrepiece looks absolutely stunning when alight - keep your candles in one shade to achieve the maximum effect, and always keep an eye on them when they are lit, to be on the safe side!

  4. Love a cocktail? How about filling your stand with an assortment of lemons and limes? The colours and shape are perfect to be bunched and placed atop a bar for easy access. Add garnishes like mint, rosemary, straws and swizzle sticks and place them amongst the fruit for some texture and colour.

  5. Group your cakestands to make a multidimensional display. Filling them with cakes, baubles, fruit or plants - this grouped display looks amazing if you play with height. Maybe place a few stands on books, layer them up on each other (carefully!) and leave a few lids off for effect.
