Discovering Berlin

I am so excited to travel to Berlin and explore a new country

A layered and complex city, Berlin, on the one hand, has horrifically sad and so much history, but on the other hand is a city of incredible people, culture, resilience and strength. I had never been to Berlin before, and to be honest, it did take me a few days to figure out - but once I did, I was in love! I love my time here and am here for Bruce's Hardvard reunion, one that was planned for 2020...then 2021…and is finally able to go ahead in 2022! So it's been a long wait which makes catching up with old friends so much more exciting.

Having a guide in a new city is so helpful, and we are so lucky to have a past Big Group Hospitality staff member Ute, who is living in Berlin doing food tours. She previously did this in Paris for many years, and spending time discovering new places with someone in the know was just amazing. She walked us through unique streets filled with art, showed us where the best bakers worked and introduced us to hidden cafes and restaurants. I don't think you can ever really understand a city until you see how the locals live and having a guide to guide and teach really helped me unwrap the layers of this city. Scooting about the city gave us a new view, and sure it's cold, but I know warmer days are ahead, so I have been relishing the crisp weather. I have loved exploring a city I didn't know much about… learning the history has been both incredible and hard to hear. We spent 3 hours at the Jewish museum, which truly was an experience I will never forget. Through architecture and design, the story of the Holocaust was told in a way that really touched me and will remain with me forever.
